We love a good phone leak just like anyone else and in today’s slot, we have a number from Sony Ericsson codenamed ST21i. The good folks over at Techblog.gr managed to get their hands on some great live shots of this mainstream Android phone, which Sony is yet to name. The design of the phone itself isn’t very inspiring or particularly attractive. For one, it’s quite a chunky little phone and that double chin at the bottom isn’t winning it any beauty awards. Sony will stick with the same three capacitive buttons for navigation and this phone will join their NXT series. Either that, or Sony many decide on a new series for their mainstream phones.
Not exactly a looker
The source also managed to gather up some of the main specifications of the phone. According to them, the phone will ship with Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3) along with Sony’s Timescape UI running on top. The phone will sport a 3.2-inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 480 but will not be getting the BRAVIA treatment, probably to reduce costs. Sony reserves their BRAVIA screens for just the higher-end models. The ST21i will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7227 SoC, which packs in a single-core ARM CPU running at 800MHz and an Adreno 200 GPU. This is the same chipset used in the phones like the Xperia X10 Mini, Samsung Galaxy Ace and so on. You also get a 3MP shooter and a 1460mAh battery pack. We don’t have any further details on when Sony might announce this device but it looks good to go so it shouldn’t be long.
Compared to the Xperia S
As far as pricing is concerned, our guess is it will launch somewhere around the 11-12K price bracket and then quickly drop to the sub-10K price range to take on the HTC Explorer and other mainstream droids. Sony already have the Live with Walkman at around 14K and looking at the specifications, there’s no way the ST21i is going to be more expensive than that. We'll have to wait and watch.
