Square Enix is a name you’ve heard by now even if you aren’t into the Final Fantasy series. Sure, they made their name primarily thanks to the well received Japanese Role Playing Games but today, they’re also known for Western franchises like Tomb Raider, Hitman etc after purchasing Eidos Interactive.
Now they’ve turned their sights to India and are planning on opening a game development studio in this country. However this studio will concentrate on the more casual side of things like handheld and social gaming for the time being. In the near future, they may look at outsourcing some of their games to India or even develop games for consoles but for now they want to isolate and promote budding gamers.

Welcome
To do so they’ve come up with a pretty cool initiative called the Game Development Contest India 2012 where they plan on promoting Indian talent to the world. It’s pretty simple. You make a team, create a game and then submit it to Square. If chosen, your game could be picked up and published by Square Enix or you could get employed by them. Oh, and did we mention you’ll also make a cool Rs. 10,00,000 in the bargain?
There are no restrictions on the kind of game you can submit as long as it’s fun and simple to play. Registrations will begin by the 25th of April and Square will start taking submissions between the 1st of August and the 30th of September 2012. They will also be setting up a website strictly for the contest updating it with rules, news as well as matchmaking options as August approaches.
